ive been wondering this for a long while now. lets say someone is immortal, what if their body is completely vaporized? dunked in acid, tied to an atomic bomb, launched into the sun, whatever, what happens then, do their conscientiousness just exist, or do they fall like asleep or something?

It depends...If he is immortal and indestructable at the same time or not. Vampires, for example, are immortal but not indestructable while Chuck Norris on the other hand... :D

What? If you are talking about Hidan if you dunk him in acid, after a while he will be dead because all cells in his brain will be gone. The same happens with most Immortals in any story.
The only ones I can think who can survive bodily annihilation are soul bender, demons from hell and fantoms. And the last ones are dead anyway.

Well if you consider the immortality like that of the ancient Greek gods, then their bodies would be destroyed but their consciences would exist for all eternity experiencing the pain of their body being destroyed. Not a pleasant way to spend eternity.

cells in brain dont matter, immortality means you can survive any kind of injury, i just want to know what if your body is destroyed completely, what then?

you will just exist no body no nothing

thats what i thought too

Well, first of all, immortality is a dreamed myth. Despite all kind of things that people tried to come up with to present immortality - constant living, unaging, vampires, rejuvenation, resurrection ect... - immortality remains a myth.

It's something that can't be explained. It has been dreamed and thought only because of a random thought that was 'If there was a way that someone keeps evading the ultimate fate that is death'. Life and death are basics in life and obviously, immortality is just a way that they found and defined as way to not die.

In short, your question is as clueless as the question 'if immortality does exist...'. Same thing for God's presence or Afterlife issues.

Well, if you are like Doc Manhattan you don't have to worry about that. Lost a body, just make a new one, or five...
