Being that Gai would no longer have a life force, he likely wouldn't be able to use the eight gate or probably even all of them since his body is fake and undead and the whole concept of the eight is leading your way to death by unleashing every ounce of chakra and life force for the ultimate attack.

It's similar to how Madara could not become the Juubi's Jinchuriki until he was revived because he wasn't real. Just his soul put into a dead person's body.
