It's not about tobi turning out to be someone we didn't want.. it's about the author making a nonsense decision on who the main villain is.

Izuna as Obito? That is very far fetched. Obito must have been related to Izuna but Izuna being the current Tobi would not be that exciting. Izuna being the tobi with the flames on the mask would be more likely.

Zetsu as some sameshifting dude who shapeshifted as Obito? Seriously? People believe that?

Obito time traveling? Orochimaru must have invented a Delorean then.

The only theory now that is very likely is that the Tobi with the flame designed mask is different from the current tobi.

It may be the perfect villain ... But canonically it doesn't make ANY type of sense for Tobi to be Obito, it opened up way too many plotholes in the timeline.
