LoTR (and the Hobbit as well) is meh...

Probably the worst decision of your life to not see either one of those series.
LOTR is really good but I would watch The Hobbit first if you want an in depth look on the story so you're not confused, and well, obviously watch the newer Star Wars movies than the older ones. (You know? Anakin first, Luke last)
