at the end of last year i completed year 11 and left school. at the start of this year i didnt go back to high school ti finish my year 12 and instead entered a pre apprenticeship course for bricklaying which is a certificate 2 after that i have recently found work and been put on a trial with a bricklayer and im not really enjoying it as much as i thought i would the only aspect i find fun is a pay check at the end of the week for my hard work, during the day tho i find my self thinking is this what i want to do for the rest of my life i previously thought of hopes of after finishing and apprenticeship to move on to other aspects of the building industry but i really dont see or understand how i would do that? i just need other people opinions and advice at worst i really believe i could just consider this a "Gap year" and go on next year to finish my year 12 and move onto further education.

Im from Australia Victoria

I belive you are right, and you should go back to school. I mean, you said it yourself, you are not happy with your life, and school will oppen whole new aspects for you. You should give it a go, IMO, it's for the best... :)

Seriously though, there's not a 18 year old on this planet that truly knows where they're going in life. Don't worry about it so much, man.

Just go back to school and finish, if you like brick laying so much, you can do it after you finish school.

The only thing's that makes me hesitant to go back to school is that i only did a year 11 vcal certificate and that i would have to adjust make new friends and all of that high school drama and that i would be a year older than most people in my year as i wouldn't be going back to the original school that i finished my year 11 with.

Australia carries the same academic system as the UK, doesn't it? You could always go to college and pick up a few A Levels, and perhaps go on to university if that's your kind of thing =] or you could try another apprenticeship and see where that takes you.

Don't worry too much about where your life is going -- you still have time to decide. Hell, I'm a 21 year old university dropout still trying to figure out where my life is heading

Better education gives you better and more options in future and helps in you learning new skills and avenues. Go back to school and don't worry that much about useless and pointless stuff.

Not all students are always of the same age and it doesn't matter that much in any case. In the worst case scenario you won't be able to get that many friends in the beginning but it is still only one year. It gets better after a while and you have next 60+ years to consider.

It's a lot of pressure, trying to decide what you want to do for the rest of your life -- have a good think about it, and take all the time you need =]

There are thousands of options out there, and eventually, you'll find one that's perfect for you. What are your main interests?

Exactly. I was half way trough my Associates before I realized what I was studying wasn't what I wanted. Two straight years of college right down the drain, and now I'm looking for something else to study. Trust me OP, you're far from alone.

-high five- ;D

I wanted to become a lawyer, studied law at university for a year and a half, decided it wasn't what I wanted. Gave it another shot, but dropped out last February because of RL problems >_> either way, I shouldn't have tried to stick with something I wasn't enjoying. :p

Sucks to hear about RL problems, hope everything turns out okay. As for me I had gone to school for Automotive Technology, and slowly but surely it dawned on me that being under a car all day sucks balls. lol I gave it another shot as well, but that's only because I was already half way there.

Ok your first step is to ignore people like this.

Get drunk and shit bro

Next, in society today we are being forced to make that major decision at a young age. But honestly just think about how young you are. You have so much time, really take it into deep consideration what you want to do.

Physical labor sucks. Doing that for the rest of your life would suck, but it is also a path that can constantly provide work pretty much anywhere you go. I recommend a continued education though. Building is dependable steady work, but not much room for advancement. You will never really make much more money, and though while the pay seems good now, think of when your 40, and only making a couple dollars an hour more, and trying to support a family off a week to week paycheck. Get a college education, and find a salaried job with full benefits. Its a lot more rewarding in the long run.
