arrived at the training grounds, this time to learn new skill, something she heard quiet a lot about but never got a chance to learn more about it. It was a beautiful sunny day and she knew training isn't going to be easy, but she had never did easy things throughout her life, maybe pushing her own limits was too mainstream for her.
Lost in her thoughts she waits for her sensei to arrive while enjoying the beauty of the nature.

Re: Illusions with Reborn...

I would like to chose Ieyasu Uchiha, it is interesting to learn genjutsus from Uchiha.

Chelsea thinks for a while before giving a long answer.
Genjutsu in general:
The literal meaning of genjutsu is illusionary techniques. Just like other techniques genjutsu also require chakra, handseals and other general requirements required to perform a jutsu, what makes genjutsu different from other technique, is the result of the jutsu. Unlike ninjutsu, where effects produced due to technique are real, results produced due to genjutsu are imaginary. Genjutsus affect the normal chakra flow system of the opponent and hence it requires special skills to counter them. Depending on the technique used, one can either alter five senses of the opponent or can also use to give your opponents mental pain and trauma. Genjutsu doesn't cause any physical pain, but can manipulate others or brainwash the opponents and hence are effective mediums when few important information is to be extracted from the captive.
Genjutsus can also be used to change the environment around the opponent, to effectively confuse him, giving a false impression that a ninjutsu is used. Complexity of genjutsu depends upon ranks, chakra control and intellect of the user, complex genjutsus such as Tsukuyomi and Izanagi are pretty powerful if used properly.
Genjutsus can be countered distinctly by 3 ways, 1. Disturbing/stopping flow of chakra in the body.
2. Causing intense pain 3. Using dojutsu.
Genjutsu in our RP:
Genjutsu in our RP is similar to genjutsu that is portrayed in the series, that is they produce illusionary effects. They are broadly classified into three types, normal genjutsu, sound genjutsu and sharingan genjutsu.
Normal genjutsus can be learnt by anyone.
Sound genjutsus requires one to have sound as ability, something similar to Tayuya.
And sharingan genjutsu, for which you need to awaken sharigan.
Genjutsus are effective typically at the short range, that is once we move away from the opponent, effect produced due to genjutsu becomes less pronounced and may disappear.
Also genjutsu occurs in two different steps, first induction time, that is first when genjutsu is initiated by the user, then creating the scenario, which requires focus.
Genjutsus need to be detected first, before one can dispel the genjutsu, for that two techniques are employed, 1. Determining that it is genjutsu by notifying the sudden change in surrounding area or opponent behavior or 2. Determining irregularity in flow of chakra.
For first you need to analyze the situation around you and intellectually found the flaw in the scenario or effect created by your opponent, while in second case you have to be either sensory ninja or must be dojutsu wielder.
While to break out of genjutsu generally three methods are used.
1. Using genjutsu flow disruption/Kai:
It is the most effective way of releasing genjutsu and is general genjutsu released technique that is taught in genjutsu training itself.
2. Using external source:
Where allies disrupt flow of chakra and release the genjutsu. It can be done by foreign introduction of chakra via ally such as bijuu or via another sharingan user.
3. Using Pain:
This is the simplest way of releasing genjutsu, where user causes pain to himself via harming himself and hence bringing back his senses. The nature of pain varies based upon rank of genjutsu.

Re: Illusions with Reborn...

As you read off the obviously pre-written text from academy grade, you find yourself interrupted shortly after a sudden burning sensation arises underneath your feet. You notice your shoes on fire almost as if out of nowhere. A moment later as you are likely frantic to get your shoes off or douse the flames a tall blacked haired shinobi in the black robes of the Uchiha walks from betwixt two trees with his eyes flaring as red as the blood that flowed through your veins.

"I hate ****s who read from text like they have no mind of their own..."
The Uchiha spoke in a nasty tone. "Next time you're asked a question use your own words." He closed his eyes in silence for a moment. He then opened one eye curiously "You are the one who sought genjutsu training from the phantom academy...right?" Ieyasu said hoping he hadn't skipped to a random conclusion.

Ouch..
Chelsea observes that her new sensei has set her precious shoe on fire. Those were new pair of shoes she has recently brought in Konoha and hence gets shocked a bit. She had never met a sensei who can set her shoe on fire in their first interaction, maybe this Uchiha is a little different.
Okay, I promise from next time onwards, I will answer in my own words and yes, I sought genjutsu training from Phantom Academy Chelsea answered while removing her already burnt shoe.

Re: Illusions with Reborn...

"Put your shoes back on..." Ieyasu flicked you on the forehead with a bit of chakra behind to increase the force enough to leave a small bruise, nevertheless after the flick you realized that he had placed you within an illusion and your feet and shoes were fine.

"I'll be brief. There are two stages to our training; the first stage is learning the main concepts of genjutsu which are Realizing and Breaking, Casting, and Layering Genjutsu respectively. You will be taken through those concepts thoroughly and then we will learn how to manipulate and cast genjutsu. When we learn it, remind me to mention the 'Method System' if I haven't already by the time we reach that point, got it?"

Re: Illusions with Reborn...

Oh damn, you are quiet good at it. Maybe I still have a long way to go.
That was Chelsea's first expression when she realized she was in the genjutsu the whole time.
Okay, understood. So we are going to start with learning the basic concepts and then I am going to learn how to implement them.Looks like a solid training strategy to me, so should we start?
Chelsea was excited about the training, but at the same time a little bit nervous since she is now going to exploit a totally unknown field to her, the genjutsu field.

Re: Illusions with Reborn...

"We're going to start with breaking, or more importantly recognizing and breaking genjutsu. Since you've already failed to break my previous technique we'll start there. From that previous experience a moment ago you should know by now that the most important means of combating genjutsu is to first recognize you're in one, otherwise in many situation you'll find yourself succumbing to the effects of the illusion just as your opponent intended and you become vulnerable to their other attacks.

My first question for you are about the special circumstances that give certain shinobi an edge over recognizing they're in a genjutsu. What special abilities make it easier for shinobi to tell they're in a genjutsu?"

Re: Illusions with Reborn...

Yeah, I did understood it, even if I am newbie when it comes to gen.
Chelsea replied fluently, as she gave a thought before replying to her sensei's next question.
There are few abilities that certainly give user an ability to figure out that he is actually in genjutsu, by monitoring the flow of chakra through his/her body, as genjutsu is characterized by disruption in flow of chakra. Dojutsus are on of those abilities. Sharingan gives color to the chakra, while Byakugan can see the chakra flow to determine if one can break out of the genjutsu. On the other hand, sensors can determine sudden change in flow of chakra to sense whether their comrade is in the genjutsu or not.
If user doesn't poses any of the above abilities, he can simply use flaws in creating the scenario, in his own favor to figure out if he is been trapped under the genjutsu or not.

I hope I did better this time Chelsea thought to herself while waiting for her sensei to evaluate her answer.

Re: Illusions with Reborn...

Chelsea sees new man appearing in front of her, someone she was quiet familiar with, since she saw him before in the village. He was quiet well known guy in Konoha nonetheless. She got an instinct the other day that she will be getting new teacher pretty soon. She was happy to see that maybe her instincts were spot on in this case.
Oh hello, my name is Chelsea. I am from mandalore clan.
Actually, we(me and my sensei) started with basic explanation of genjutsu, he asked me out some questions, then put me in a genjutsu, but you see, ugh...Since I am quiet noob when it comes to genjutsu, I wasn't able to break out of it. Then we did some theoretical part, though I didn't learn any jutsu.

Chelsea answered with a smiley face, though inside her, she was feeling bad for being noob in genjutsu. She was good at multiple things, was smart enough to catch her opponent off-guard using nin, but wasn't that much skilled shinobi in gen.

Re: Illusions with Reborn...

Okay, I went through your training and I want you to solve this cases.

-Scenario: As you stand before me. I shout "Kuchiyose, Hebi" and slam my hands on the ground. Then you see snakes appear and begin to wrap around you. The handseal was but a fake and the snakes, a simple illusion.
How would you know this is actually an illusion?

-Scenario 2: You have an ally standing beside you and instead of puting you in the above illusion, I put your ally in it. How would you notice this?

Re: Illusions with Reborn...

Chelsea listened your questions carefully and then answered your questions:
Okay then,
1. In first scenario, there are two possibilities, it can be either a genjutsu or summoning attack, but it is a genjutsu. The main trait that separates it from summoning, is the way the technique is performed. While doing summoning jutsu, user starts with drawing his blood and then slams his hands on the ground(with or without handseals), at a position where he wants the summon to appear.
In your case, you slammed your hand at some distance from me, even though snakes appear directly on my body and hence this proves that, it is a genjutsu and not a summoning technique.
2. In case of second scenario, since you are placing my ally in genjutsu, he will see snakes appearing and wrapping his body, although I won't be able to see any snakes, even though you said 'Kuchiyose:Hebi', which is kinda weird. Then, I will talk with my ally and will try to know what he is seeing around him. If he is saying snakes are appearing around him, even though I don't see any snakes, I will conclude that he is in genjutsu.

Chelsea waits for you to give your verdict on her response.

Nice analysis. Though for the second, would you have time to ask quesions. You will however see his physical reaction from the constriction of the snake. In real life, he won't be able to move a muscle. Also the non appearance of the snakes should already alert you that something was wrong.

What can you tell me about Genjutsu Breaking?

Genjutsu is actually an illusion created by your opponent by disrupting your normal flow of chakra and by introducing his chakra into your brain and hence genjutsu can be broken out of by overcoming this control, by sudden disruption and resetting of chakra flow through your body to it's normal state.
It can be obtained by three distinct ways,
1. Using foreign chakra: This effect is achieved using some ally, who will introduce foreign chakra into my body, to disrupt the chakra flow and hence releasing me out of genjutsu. Such as Jinchuriki can be released out of genjutsu by Tailed beasts. Although my ally should be unaffected in the first place.
2. By introducing surge of chakra: This is achieved by two means. First, is by using a C-Rank genjutsu release technique, know as 'Kai'.

Rank: C-S
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 15-40
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user does one hand seal to focus and then proceeds to disturb his chakra flow by forcefully stopping it momentarily and then "spiking" his spiritual energy, unbalancing his chakra. This dispels any genjutsu set upon the user except MS Eye Techniques, Paralysis-like Genjutsu and Demonic Illusion: Toad Confrontation Chant. The effectiveness of this technique is dependent upon the skill of the user. A Jounin rank ninja can dispel Genjutsu up to C-rank. An S-class ninja can dispel Genjutsu up to B-rank. A Sannin rank ninja can dispel Genjutsu up to A-rank. A Sage rank user can dispel Genjutsu up to S-Rank. The user may use this technique through physical contact on others to dispel them from Genjutsu. The technique can only be used once per turn and the user still needs to fully follow the logic as to why he figured out it was an illusion.

In this case, user unbalances his chakra flow by stopping the chakra flow and then spikes his spiritual energy, to unbalance his chakra(since chakra=spiritual+physical energy) and hence releases himself out of genjutsu.
Apart from 'Kai', there are other techniques such as Chidori Nagashi,

Rank: A
Type: Offense/Defence
Range: Short (Mid if channeled through a medium)
Chakra Cost: 30
Damage Points: N/A (+10 if used to boost weapon damage)
Description: This jutsu allows the user to generate non-focused electricity from their body. It can be used as an omnidirectional attack or be channeled through weapons, the ground or other conductive mediums. Because the electricity isn't focused, it doesn't kill on contact, instead it has great numbing and paralyzing effects. To channel Nagashi through a medium, the user needs to focus the technique into one of his hands which will then be put in contact with the medium and can only choose to either do a widespread attack throughout his whole body or to channel it into something; he cannot achieve both usages at the same time. Despite not having much destructive or damaging properties, Nagashi can be used to destroy low rank earthen and wooden structures and even negate chakra on the ground to stop high ranked earth and wood techniques. It has also been noted that Lightning Specialists that have mastered Lightning to the highest degree can resist total paralyzation, although they still feel the pain and numbing effects.
Note: Paralyzation lasts 1 turn if sucessful but is ineffective against bios who have a primary Lightning Specialty.

Which can be used to send surge of chakra throughout the body, disrupting the flow and releasing out of genjutsu.
It can release up to B-Rank genjutsu, apart from it, there is a technique called as Doton:Hardening technique, which can be used to overcome A-Rank genjutsus.
3. Using pain: I can also break out of genjutsu by inflicting damage upon myself. This is physical counterpart of spiritual kai. Though, higher the rank of genjutsu, higher is the amount of pain, I need to inflict upon myself. Such as stabbing me using Kunai is needed to get me out of C-Rank gen while simply biting finger is more than enough to release out of D-Rank gen.
Also, if my bio is resistant to small pain, higher amount of pain is required.
These three are main genjutsu techniques. Though, first I need to figure out that I am in a genjutsu using analytic approach(monitoring my environment and all). To determine I am in a genjutsu, dojutsus and chakra sensing abilities will be helpful in high extent.
I can go on telling you more about detection of genjutsu, but I think I will leave that for later.

Chelsea waits for you to grade her analysis.

Nice analysis.

1 and 2(a) are somewhat the same.
This is because, your ally can not freeformly break you out of genjutsu. Him, injecting chakra into you act as a form of chakra spike and needed the posting of Kai technique. Others which can be used are the chakra transfer technique. The only one that can be freeformed is the jinjuriki and the Bijuu thingy.

Secondly, 2a and 2b are different.
Kai is not a full body surge though IMO. You stop the flow of your chakra and starts them again causing your chakra to refresh. It is just like hitting the reset button.

Nagashi or other full body surge would surge chakra throughout your entire tenketsu with some essense of force/pressure. This allows a forced reset of chakra. Imagine something like a sudden outburst, cleansing or format of the chakra system.

Others are fine.

Any question?

Thanks for pointing it out.
Anyways understood, we can proceed now.^^

*put you in a genjutsu*
( Nehan Shōja no Jutsu ) - Temple of Nirvana Technique
Rank: A
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 30
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user makes one handseal, placing all the targets in the area under an
illusion where feathers appear to fall from
the sky. This slowly puts the opponents to
sleep after one turn.

Detect you are in an illusion, then

Make a handseal and focus on your chakra flow. Stop it for a bried moment, then start it once again.

If done successfully, you would have been able to spike your chakra and you chakra would reset, freeing you from my illusion

Okay.^^

Chelsea scans the area around her, trying to notice if something is coming towards her, as she sees that everything has become silent.
She then sees some feathers falling down from the sky, which are pretty large in numbers.
She also notices the feather started coming after her sensei waved the handseal, indicating that it is his doing, alongside the fact there is absolutely no possibility that a group of words to throw feathers can appear out of nowhere.o.o
Also, the man never drew out blood or put his hand on the ground, so as to summon a bird or something and there wasn't any summon that actually appeared. So, that made one thing clear to her, this isn't summoning ninjutsu. Also, the feathers weren't directly directed towards her vital points to harm her, but had soothing effect attached to them rather than the killing intention which jutsu like this is supposed to have attached to it.
This analysis made one thing clear to her, this can not be a ninjutsu, effects are more psychological as well and there was only one thing that was coming to her mind, it is genjutsu.
After figuring out, she is in genjutsu, she made one handseal and focused her attention on her chakra flow. Due to that, she was able to sense the movement of every bit of chakra flowing through her. She then forcefully stopped the chakra from a moment and then restarted it in a quick succession, so as to reset her chakra flow. This spike was powerful enough to release her out of genjutsu, due to a genjutsu release technique, which she called out while performing, known as 'Kai'.
It was a really good genjutsu though, she waited patiently for you to respond.

Excellent.

It is neccesary you know how to get out from a genjutsu first before you begin to learn them so you just learn Kai
