The money would only go to a certain industry, weapons development and military factions.
Other programs such as paying back debts and social security programs will have to be compromised.

Do you really think america cares about paying debts? you actually think china will ever come collect these "debts" and plunge the world into ww3? those certain industries would help feed millions of american people, who would intern spend their hard earned money in their communities, boosting the economy.

If we don't pay our debts, dollar value will depreciate in the world market causing inflation of prices for us Americans.
Business cannot resume normally if there is a war going, just like in the previous world war everyone is required to work to create weapons and military gears to be used in war.

The ignorance in your comment is over 9000 lol

Dude every president doesnt have to go congress and none of them actually have. Show me some proof that any of them have prove me wrong. Only Obama has asked congress over a decisionto go to war

This may be slightly off topic, but I would like to clarify to people who aren't studying this stuff in college (like I am) that there is a world of difference between a war and a "military strike". Obama was proposing a military strike (set # of Tomahawk missiles to hit buildings w/ chem. weapons) that did not involve "going to war" with Assad's government. America would have no obligation to see the conflict through to the end or maintain a presence in the region. That's huge.

Oh and by the way I calculated the avg. amount an American taxpayer would have to pay for us to shoot 1 Tomahawk missile; and it was .003 cents. So the attack would cost each American a bit less than a dollar. Really guys, this is not an issue.

That being said, I'm glad they're working towards a peaceful resolution and I really hope Assad cooperates.

TO declare war a president needs congress approval, please go to school. the president doesn't need approval to execute a military strike(which he was pushing for)

America has been in debt for as long as we've been a country and you're saying that the economy can't run as long as we have debt? America only starting failing we we started mass outsourcing jobs. you can thank NAFTA for that

Well value of money always fluctuates depending on factors such as economy.
However if the government defaults on its loans, the dollar would have fallen drastically, causing the american citizens to pay more to obtain imported products.

Wrong. The President has to go through Congress first, that's law. If congress says no, that means he can override their decision BUT only after he goes through congress. That's why he's the Commander and Chief.

Bush went over congress after they voted no cuz he's an *******. Obama decided not too

Slimreaper all you are is a contrarian that goes against what everyone else is saying nd you dont even know why. Like your comments with SAGE that are just you negating everything hes saying. You dont deserve an appropriate answer. However let me school you son. The constitution of the United States allows the president to start a war and it doesnt say that he needs to ask congress. Its obvious with the Afganistan and Iraq war. . . and the gulf war and the vietnam war. Got it.

So that means that asking congress is just a courtesy. Their not really asking just going through a petty ceremony in their minds

Quoting this guy because he seems to be the only guy who's not biased and knows what he's talking about.

From the college dude that said that a missile would cost ".003" cents to the american citizens. Lets not forget that "thats a bit less than a dollar".

Well yeah, when you consider we would hypothetically use about 200-300 of them

.003 cents is not a logical price quantity unless the unites states is hoping to pay their missiles with scrap metal from every citizen

No I'm saying a Tomahawk missile to build and fire costs $1 million. And since many people complain that America cannot afford intervention, I was pointing out the taxpayer burden per missile is $1 mil / 300 mil people = .003 cents, if in fact the American public were shouldering the whole burden for missile production (which they wouldn't). That's all.

Congress holds the power to declare war. As a result, the president cannot declare war without their approval. However, as the Commander in Chief of the armed forces, many presidents have sent troops to battle without an official war declaration (ex. Vietnam, Korea). The 1973 War Powers Act attempted to define when and how the president could send troops to battle by adding strict time frames for reporting to Congress after sending troops to war, in addition to other measures.

the president can only used a limited number of the armed forces he can't ever declare war on his own. none of the wars you mentioned were declared without congress approval so how did you school me?

as far as being a contrarian that is mostly true but not on matters of politics. I have my beliefs and I stick to them. If they contradict yours than so be it. I will not however support a socialist do you need a lesson in socialism as well?
