I dont live in India, but my parents, School teachers, Heads, Mates and every other indian I've met here in UAE have all adviced or dreamed of going there, After hearing about it in my middle school, i was impressed.. I made it my goal, not untill i heard about MIT, Stanford, Princeton XD
after watching the vid, i felt that my school itself looks thousand times better than that place.. o.o' but I agree, that to get there, is no piece of cake, even though they dont look like any fancy smancy college, it is the hardest to get into in the world.. no kidding, i've tried some of their etrance questions XD i should know..
And its pretty sad that 2/3rds leave india after all the subsidies and knowledge its given to them (did i mention its only about 700$ for tuition, food, dorms etc) the dorms look like they are prison blocks XD
but They make indians proud by spreading knowledge and it spreads its most talented people throughout the world...

Dang, that's crazy. I knew that there's that stereotypical "genius Indian kid." lol But, IIT only has engineering stuff. If you wanted medical or something completely different, then tough luck.

iits are literally the storm drain of india when it comes to brain drain. our best tools go there "in search of knowledge" by learning thousands of problems on shit they'll never use after their entrance tests and then after finishing 4 years of the best education india has to provide, they go to the us and work for google. what shitheads.

that being said, i too and preparing for my entrance tests atm.

Its no price of cake to get into IITs(not talking about the newer IITs). I know I tried I failed. So around 1.2-1.5 million aspirants for Engineering in India per year. The genuine IIT seats are 2000( genuine branches + genuine IITs).
So you have to be ahead of 99.87% of population. Or you are screwed. I was only ahead of 99.5% of people and I failed. That means I was ahead of 199 in every 200 people and it was not good enough. So consider that before making lose statements.
Brain Drain is a problem but let us say that all of the IIT , i.e. 0.13% of India goes abroad and let's say another 0.17% also goes abroad, then also 99.7% Indians are developing India. That is s hood enough strength and there is no need to fear.
