Did you forget that he soloed three sterritters. I won't say which of these two are better but grimmjoww can handled by asking until he was saved by urahara. They both would have died if not for nel. But byakuya toshiro and zaraki did well against Gerard and held out for as long as needed without ever being seriously injured.
Byakuya's presence wasn't even felt in that fight. Kenpachi and Toshiro literally stole the show. At the end of the day Byakuya didn't amount to much, whereas everyone around him was growing rapidly.
There used to be a time when Byakuya and Kenpachi were compared to each other.
Anyways, there is literally nothing going well enough for Byakuya to say he is > Grimmjow in the first place. Grimmjow was introduced as a threat to Bankai + Hollow Ichigo. Kenpachi always held back so he had an excuse, and he fought and defeated the 5th espada, Byakuya got matched up with the 7th Espada.
Grimmjow was also one of the if not THE fastest growing espada, so its safe to assume his growth rate is better than Byakuya's as well, so he grew more than Byakuya did over that time.
So really no matter how you want to spin it, nothing concrete enough puts Byakuya > Grimmjow, more points towards the other direction.

Nah. Current byakuya beats him. We saw his bankai. Grimmjow really can't counter that.
Bankai Byakuya is on shikai no eyepatch Zaraki level.

Hell,the guy who stole his bankai tought that his shikai was his new bankai, that alone foreshadows how much he grew. I don't even like this guy, really, but grimmjow is lame power wise. (He's an amazing character)

But literally the exact same thing can be said for Grimmjow. Current Grimmjow should be >>>> Grimmjow from HM arc.

Because LITERALLY Byakuya showed improvement and Grimmjow didn't.
Byaiya improved becausehe was trained by the soul king's royal guards (the ones who turned ****ing rukia into captain level), while grimmjow was in hueco mundo with chad and orohime... I don't know what logic you're using to say Grimmjow improved. By feats he didn't, and by logic, he could improve a bit out of experience and some training, but he's not on byakuya level.

at the same time, literally not even needing to draw his sword out, initially treating them like children. Like I said he can measure the difference in levels, there was no need for him to be cautious even fighting 4 of the sternritter together. Yet it took one little blast of aura from Grimmjow for Ichigo to feel threatened.
