If there are computers in the Naruto world why do they use messenger hawks?

If there are computers in the Naruto world as seen in the last chapter why do they use messenger hawks and pets\people to send messages rather than use mail? You could argue that they invented pcs later on but how is it that they have tvs in the chunnin exams? It just randomally crossed my mind. I don't really mind what you do with this silly discussion-starter, have a nice day.
