To obtain the Rinnegan you need Senju and Uchiha DNA. If the sharingan is derived from the byakugan that would mean that the Uchiha and the Hyuuga are distant relatives. Hinata is a Hyuuga.

Naruto is from the Uzumaki clan which is related to the Senju clan.

I don't know, just a random thought that popped up in my head. What do you think?

I think the Byakugan & Sharingan both came from the Elder Son of the Sage, so they're derived from his eyes.

It's been speculated on a lot in the past. The obvious answer is that there is no REAL answer, since it is strictly speculation, and has never been explained. We aren't even entirely sure what it takes for Rinnegan. It's all been very vague. I would assume that this wouldn't happen because of how diluted the child's heritage would be. Not even direct descendants of Senju and Uchiha. I think if that were possible, other mixes are jUST as likely to occur, since all the clans are descendent, sin whatever tiny way.

The Hyugas back story is next to nothing so there really isn't anything to go off of. The only thing we do know is that when the Byakugan was being introduced Kakashi said that the Sharingan was derived from the Byakugan. But it seems like the more development the Uchiha get, the more of what Kakashi said seems false.
