Do you think that Obito would have rushed in to protect Kakashi from the Mist ninja and would return to Konoha after wards after consoling with Kakashi?

I think it would have been the same, Rin would still have been the loser in he and Madara's cycle, the very thing he turned evil for would still be there. Kakashi fainted because he unlocked MS, it would have been exactly the same IMO.

No it's the fact that Kakashi was the one that killed Rin. If he had witnessed Rin die while back in Konoha, Kakashi and Minato would have kept him on the right path.
