That's what I mean. She replaced the soul Shukaku took with him, with her own. The only difference between that and Naruto is, Sakura kept Naruto's body functioning.

Or she simply put his own soul back in the body, since it's been shown that it's the souls that carry memories, therefore if Chiyo actually put her own soul in his body, he'd be acting like Chiyo but in Gaara's body. Take Edo Tensei for example:
The user kills a sacrifice, then places a dead persons soul in the deceased body. If what you say happened to Gaara was true, then the Edo's would just be whatever fodder the user killed. There's also the fact that Chiyo was revived via Edo Tensei and that would be impossible in cold Hell if Chiyo's soul was actually in Gaara

I think the only way to answer this is with another question: Was Sakura able to save Naruto when kurama was extracted? No, she was only able to delay his death until kurama could be resealed into him

That in an of itself is plot shield in its finest, if it are possible to keep a Jinchuriki alive by resealing the beast in them, then Kushina would be alive. But she stated that even if the beast is resealed, she would still die from the extraction!
