Some people are saying that controllijg kurama in that fight might have hindered madara, not helped him since he was devoting so much focus and energy toward it. A valid argument though i dont really agree with it.

It isnt a matter of finding kurama, he had him in a summoning jutsu. And he can still cast genjutsu on hashirama. The problem is that he cant focus one hundred percent on the battle, he has to control kurama as well.

He may have done better without the 9 tails. He had to multi task between controlling it and fighting Hashirama. I wouldn't be surprised once the 9 tails was released from Madara's control it turned on him.
