Kakashi made a promise to obito, that he would protect rin with his life. I believe that if he were to give his life to protect rin, obito would be overwhelmed with joy that his friend would go as far to risk his life to protect the promise that he had with Obito. He would undoubtedly be full of angry at the same time.

He would have helped bring Rin back to the village and would have went good again. However, i doubt that Madara would allow him to return, giving that he knows about Madaras existence.
