then why didnt he just take the elders out? I realize this would have started some kind of war, but Sasuke makes it seem like Itachi was 'used.' I feel that if Itachi was so powerful and was against killing off his clan(and family) then he would have just killed the people wanting him to do it in the first place. Sasuke also makes his clan seem like they had halos over there head and that the 'Leaf' killed his clan for no reason. When really they weren't all that innocent themselves. U_U

itachi didnt take out the entire clan by himself he had madara help him. He was partially able to do this because not everyone had the sharingan in the clan. At his age i dont think he could have stopped the third hokage and danzo, i will admit he was strong when he was young, but i dont think he was strong enough to take out the third hokage.

i know, but people act differently with bad emotions, so if itachi did try to attack him, the 3rd would've won but would've regretted the fight.

He did not want to take the elders out because he loves peace.
He would and has sacrificied himself to stop war, which was totally destroy by Sasuke's impotency to understand that.

Itachi enlisted the help of Madara to take out the entire Uchiha Clan.

However, Itachi had divided loyalties to his clan and Konoha. Itachi didn't want to kill the elders in the first place. He carried out his mission, regretting killing his clan, setting the stage for Sasuke to come kill him as a bit of redemption for his sins. He, in no part, wanted Sasuke to destroy the Leaf. He loved the Leaf as much as he loved his little brother.

Itachi was a peace loving man and he was on the side of Konoha, he tried to reason with his father to stop the plan of the Coup but they were to stuck on the clan and thinking that the clan should not be segregated against. So the only thing Itachi really could do was take part in the Massacre he was preventing a war from happening and if the elders fell the war would most likely happen. And the third really had no part in ordering the massacre he was out voted.
