If he had used it against Edo Madara, then PS would've protected him till Gai burns himself out. Though with Naruto, Kakashi and Killer B's help. They would most likely be able to bust PS AND kill/seal Madara away. If he used it against Madara after he got revived, Madara would've been buttraped as that is pretty much the same Madara Gai already slapped around, but without the Juubi.
