He did die on the battlefield but not after that fight. He sacrificed himself so Hiruzen and the others could escape during a fight with the Kinkaku Force.

You have to remeber it was not only the gold and silver brothers there when tobirama was killed it was an enitre unit that was there so he was probably just overwhelmed also he planned on dieing. His most said word that is tough
