There isn't lol it's just plot influenced. Whenever sage mode is discussed NE is brought up numerous times in the manga. Never was there a distinction.

During the fight with Pain, Naruto also collect NE next to the oil fountain and that is why one of Pain turned into a stone when he over absorbed NE from Naruto - that NE source was only to fire up a few rasen shuriken lol

Kabuto and Orochimaru has an unique mark around their eyes and it was link to snake mark + their body looks more like a snake. In Kabuto case he is slowly turned into a snake/dragon - Question for you, why he not turn into a frog ?

In my opinion, there's only one type of NE which is why frog sennin mode attacks can affect the juubi's jinchuriki, why frog naruto can detect the juubi, why sasuke can detect the NE Naruto gathers, and why NE is something attributed to general energy exerted by all objects: because it's all based on the same natural energy. I think the only thing that determins whether one becomes a frog, dragon etc is the method in which you learn to absorb and manipulate natural energy.
