Fodder because its facing the wrong people though, someone who can't absorb chakra or has Raikage-level speed and beyond would get utterly screwed by both.

As for the move getting royally shat on, well, Kishi probably realized that Sasuke could basically kill people just by staring at them, so he made all of these changes to made the story more "exciting".

So what you're basically saying is that Kishi nerfed Amaterasu. lol

Oh, I was literally waiting for someone to come at me with that. I think it was already debated long ago. Well then, why wasn't his outfit damaged? Why didn't we get to hear any noises of him phasing/warping? Why did he come out so quickly? And, most important, how can he use kamui to get those flames off his body? Phasing is useless - they would still be attached to Obito's flesh. Same with warping. He could snipe them away with Kakashi's sharingan, but he doesn't have it. So, what do you think?

But Shino's bugs were also firmly touching his body too, and yet he still managed to phase out and leave them behind.

Amaterasu is not fodder jutsu.

I'm not an Uchiha much fan, but I can say that Amaterasu was nerfed by plot because:

1. Amaterasu goes on what the user's eye targets.

2. Once it starts to turn on a target it never goes out until the user goes feels pain in the eye or whatever.

3. Has speed (eye speed).


The only real evasion for amaterasu is a Minato type shinobi that can use shunshin because he's fast and the eye can't keep the pace.

Ofc there are powers that can make a shield such as KAMUI that forms a vortex in front of the user .. so basically the amaterasu user aims the vortex since it's in front of the target.

Other than that... Sasuke aimed at Madara's clothes instead of face.. Another nerf by plot because Sasuke wanted to kill him not get him naked yet the plot made him target the clothes.

Raikage.. Aimed at the hand instead of face.

Actually aiming at the head with amaterasu even as nerfed as it is would make it OP against users that don't have SHUNSHIN, KAMUI, MASK ON FACE, etc. ​

If sasuke was to hit your whole body with ama nobody can a escape but naruto i would said with kurama avatar and his cloak, rinnegan users can with deva, jin with a red cloak and bee let his self get court so i don't know if ama really worked right there but anybody else die raikage was lucky sasuke wasn't that good with it yet if he knew how to use it at summit most would of been dead there

OT: Indra's transmigrant has amateratsu, if Kaguya knows of it, did Indra have it? If she saw Indra use it, could that be where she saw it? She doesn't use it, maybe Indra does

Amaterasu is not fodder at all, but there are people who can evade, counter or seal the justsu. Jiraiya was able to seal away Itachi's amaterasu flames using one of his sealing scrolls.

Amaterasu is such a unique justsu I don't think it's meant to be used the way most people describe it. Like I say in all my post correct me if I'm wrong but I don't Amaterasu is suppose to be a finisher jutsu, which is why we've never seen people of high reputation/importance being killed from it. But at the same time its such a tactical jutsu to give you an advantage in a battle, for all the times I've seen amaterasu it was used to either open a weak spot on an opponent or it is used to cause an opponent to be less offensive. As we seen with the raikage A and madara and the samurai at the kage summit it just exposed an enemies weakness so that the amaterasu user would have the advantage in battle. Madara took off his armor exposing himself, raikage A cut his arm off lower his offensive power not by a lot but it's better to have two hands than one and as for the samurai he also had to expose himself and take off his defensive armor. When taka sasuke fought killer b, you all know damn well killer b wanted to kill sasuke, like who didn't during that time period, he was a highly wanted ninja, but amaterasu gave sasuke the advantage by causing killer b in all to pretend like he was killed in battle. Amaterasu is a great jutsu, definetly not fodder, but it's purpose isn't suppose to be the big finishers like rasengan, kirin, Susanoo, it's just a jutsu to use against an opponent to give the caster of the jutsu an upper hand in the battle and if you're skilled like sasuke and itachi and other amaterasu users(if there is any) then you take advantage of that a point of weakness to kill that opponent, unless your opponent is madara which will ultimately result in plot no jutsu, or if you're a character of significance like killer B, kishi will also bless you with the ultimate defense of plot no jutsu.

After Sasuke, a main character, gained the technique, Amaterasu was spammed about as much as Rasengan; it can't always be a win, and therefore winds up being countered a lot. Many top tier Shinobi have very simple counters, such as chakra absorption, chakra shields, or Sage reflexes to predict/avoid Amaterasu. The once-godly technique was brought down to the level of baseline "upper tier" offensive jutsu.

Power scaling simply did not work in favor of Amaterasu.

Not really and Indra having it makes sense because Obito proved having an Uchiha's chakra grants a person their abilities. Sasuke's jutsu were also Indra's because he had Indra's chakra.

It wasnt nerfed there are legit ways around it. And a bit of the jutsus mechanics were hyped through hyperbole and myth. Itachi made it worse by being a complete mystery lol

Honestly though, the reason people think it's a fodder jutsu is because it has yet to actually end anyone. I wouldn't call it a fodder jutsu though as it is ranked forbidden. It's just that toward the end of the war it was being used against top level/god tier shinobi who basically shrug it off.

But in the right situation it still had its advantages, like Kaguya's ice dimension. Sasuke melted right through it freeing himself and Naruto. So....

Also Dantee you exaggerated some of your examples. It didn't take down Hachibi. Bee actually used Amateratsu as a means to escape the village. All Sasuke burned was a tenticle. True on the Pain hound. In this case Amateratsu was the best counter for its sermingly unending multiplying ability so points on that.

The the hype. The hyperbole. Noone has ever really tested how hot Amaterasu is. How would they even do it. These are myths and/or legends by exaggeration or guesses based on witnesses.

Amaterasu is strong in the right hands, it only looked weak in the Summit because Sasuke was using it irresponsibly due to his inexperience with the Mangekyo at the time. Earlier we saw one shot is all he needed to neg a bijuu, the same bijuu 3rd Raikage nearly died fighting, that in itself shows how powerful the jutsu is.

In addition, Amaterasu can be combined with other techniques that shinobi have a hard time defending against, that's what makes the jutsu so powerful. Sasuke can use the flames as Susano'o weapons or form them into his own personal blade. With the speed he had in War Arc he would've killed Raikage within seconds using a simple Enton blade.
