Meh, stupid question. Yes, there's no one around to hear it, but in forests there are hundreds of animals who live there. At least one animal in the forest would have seen the tree fall. So yes, it actually did fall (because there's witnesses who saw it happen).

The better variation would be if it made a sound, although it's more popular it sets up for more of an understanding of what basic philosophy is all about.
