If they only cared about the art then they wouldn't sign the record deals.

Err there are loads of artists on independent labels and they're doing pretty fine.
And most artists get their dues through merch sales and selling out gigs, not from selling records cuz most of the cut goes to the label execs. Unless you're a Metallica or an Eminem or whatever, you ain't gonna get much money from selling records.

I remember when I was young enough to still like ICP. Wait til you reach some real rap. You should start the switch now and get you some Army of the Pharaohs cds, some Jurassic 5, some Big L, some Aesop Rock and RA the rugged man, Gangstarr, Blackstar,
