"If we are to survive this calamity, we must work together to create a brighter future."

Name: Iavid
Clan: Monk of the Human Principal
Nickname: Grandmaster
Gender: Male
Age: Immortal (Primordial Human)
Alignment: Lawful Good
Nindō: Will of Fire

Appearance

Prior to the events surrounding Abzu's cataclysm Iavid was a monk who maintained the barrier around Sanctuary, possessed of simple robes, and a lengthy beard he would idly brush as he contemplated the world around him. With the arrival of the Child of Tiamat Lucifer many things changed. After performing an ancient, overwhelmingly advanced technique of the Human Principle Iavid entered a comatose state. When he awoke weeks later he had reverted to a "Primordial" state, resembling himself in his prime, before he became one of Marduk's Chosen. His signature beard and elderly countenance cast off into the distant future once more as the clock was wound back for the Grandmaster. Now Iavid has the appearance of a man in his early to mid thirties, clean shaven and bald. His expression is always relaxed, composed and most importantly kind. He dons the same dark and creamish-gold robes, simplistic with function over fashion.

Personality

Although the body is young, Iavid is still very much a wizened elder beneath that youthful shell, still the same wise, astute and most of all compassionate Monk alive. He is a very responsible figure, and has earned the respect and love of his fellow Monks and humans. The same is true for what refugees have fled the former Freehold and Tobusekai, met with open arms, welcoming them to Kamiyasumi and Sanctuary. So long as peace was their creed all were welcome no matter their background. Unlike other factions seeking to fill the void left in Abzu's wake who had a grudge against the Arali, and certain extremists that have appeared in the days since the Cataclysm, Iavid views the Arali as no different than his human brethren. They were all Children of the Gods divine powers, merely created at different times and for different roles, but their shared origin made them one in his eyes.

History

Not many details are known about Iavid's past at present. He was born in a time when Gods yet still walked the planet, when the ancient Empires of Tobusekai were still glimmering gold and prospering. He lived a full life honored with many blessings, and he lived through perhaps one of the hardest moments in the world's history: Tiamat's war with Marduk's Pantheon and their children, Humanity itself. What is known is that Iavid and many of his kin fought against the hordes of Tiamat, and with both the Pantheon and the rest of Humanity, prevailed. For their bravery and courage in the face of such horrors, Marduk blessed his children with the gift of immortality, allowing their flame to never die out.

200 years after the war Iavid led the other Monks of the Human Principal West, and settled on the island of Kamiyasumi. And for thousands of years they lived in peace and prospered, unaware of the world outside their bounds. Eventually they were lost to time, the continent of Kamiyasumi vanishing from sight and memory, until one day, thousands of years later, yet still over five thousand years before the Sage of Six Paths would be born and introduce Chakra to the world, the Voidlord Basel subjugated the Monks of the Human Principal, "collecting" them like one would a trophy. The Dragonkin's greed knew no bounds, but would ultimately lead to his downfall.

In the year 814 the Child of Tiamat Lucifer arrived on Kamiyasumi and in a desire for revenge, sought to end the Voidlord's life. Though he was not aversed to saving Iavid's people from Basel's rule, quite the opposite in fact, it was revenge that drove the enigmatic Child to battle Basel. The Voidlord arrived soon after and both fought in the heart of Sanctuary, Basel with the tremendous ability able to weaponize the very idea that was Lucifer's greed and ambitions against him. Even Lucifer's own desire to defeat Basel was strengthening the Voidlord. Lucifer maintained a powerful grip on the fight even as Basel showed his true form, and with the help of Iavid, and an ancient technique of Atavistic Flame that reverted Lucifer to a primordial state, Atavism: Origination, casting aside all vices and sins, the Child managed to slay the dragon and save the Atavistic Monks.

The victory was not without its price however, as Iavid entered a comatose state and was unresponsive, everyone feared for the Grandmaster's life. Every day he was tended to by his people, including the young priestess Fyarana, and yet every day his condition remained the same. Origination was an incredibly taxing and clearly potent technique, and its use had a clear effect on Iavid. As he lay motionless some wondered if he would ever wake up. The loss of the Grandmaster would be felt by all in Sanctuary... But this was not meant to be. One day he simply woke up. But he was not his old self. Rather, he was his "old" self. Origination had affected him as well, reverting him to his own Primordial state, the same way it had affected Lucifer. Iavid had been returned to his humble origins as he regained his youth. In the months that followed Iavid hypothesized that this was a one in a million occurrence, and that using Origination again might have even direr outcomes, so resolved to never again perform the technique if he could help it.
