the personal issues went on to cause drama for the team as a whole, in large part because Kakashi wouldn't bring himself to deal with it. Which is why i think Yamato made a better squad leader than Kakashi, because he made it abundantly clear that the arguing and fighting that went down with the last team's incarnation wasn't going to happen on his watch. And it didn't. If Kakashi wasn't supposed to deal with it, then there was no point in Hiruzen making it a point to arrange things where they would be 2 of the 3 ppl he was put in charge of.

If Kakashi is supposed to be fit to be the Hokage, then he's going to have to learn how to deal with ppl's personal baggage. Because from certain characters' past experiences with that title, it is going to be unavoidable for sure.

Actually, it still isn't a hokage's job to deal with petty, stupid personal issues like that, although it definitely is unavoidable. Hiruzen put Sasuke and Naruto together because they shares similarities. If Kakashi didn't have the Sharingan, like Sasuke, they could've gone to a different squad leader.

This is a very important reason. The way naruto is, he will easily forgive anyone who does a crime because he is too kind and this will result in his downfall as a hokage. On the other hand, kakashi can take tough decisions if he has to,he knows what needs to be done. He can kill people if they are threat to the village or shinobi world.

how in the world does crying for a reformed mass murder = downfall as hokage? Does Naruto doing that mean he even believes Obito should be let off the hook for all of his crimes?

Crying for someone when something bad happens to them simply shows that you value that person, and Naruto being able to do that for someone like Obito makes him a far greater hokage than Kakashi could ever hope to become when Kakashi can't do the same for his best friend. If Naruto values someone like Obito that much, then how much more would he value the people who haven't mass murdered or went down the dark path?
