Oh of course he's shown that he can use those 3 elements my problem is that he used that ninja tool and that makes him weak and shouldn't even be considered a prodigy like Minato or Itachi.
Well he used the Ninja Tool for other reasons, it was specific on his behavior. He didn't go to Katasuke because he needed it, Katasuke went to him because he needed the son of the Hokage to showcase the device in use. So it was kind of similar to Mizuki tricking Naruto into stealing the scroll.
However Boruto knew what he was doing was wrong, in fact he contemplated on not using it until Naruto came in to congratulate him, which mind you is something he was longing for. Earlier he was telling Naruto of his accomplishments (Learning the Kage Bunshin without training, and learning how to utilize three elemental natures), but Naruto was more worried on his lack of ethic when it came to him not using team work, and not being active when it came to training.
But it all depends on what you view a talented shinobi should to be. If you think he should of not used his device, which doesn't make him a Prodigy, then I'm going to assume your definition of Prodigy could very well be used on anyone in the generation, Chou Chou included. The great thing about his character is that he isn't a trope when it comes to his talent, plus, we haven't seen a lazy Genius (I wouldn't list Shikamaru because he wasn't that lazy to where he didn't even train, he was smart lazy, if that makes sense).
Though if you consider a Prodigy based on what he or she has been capable of doing, then we can understand the term better. Bolt has latent parallels to his

. Despite all of this, opinions won't change the facts. He'd crush anyone in his generation, and his talent exceeds them all. All that and he was a cheater who didn't even like to train and took short cuts. Now imagine that :lol
