Byakugan was a natural ability of the Sages Mother. Sharingan was given by the Juubi (if i'm correct.. the eye on the forhead of the sages mother awakened with 9 Tomoe Sharingan after she had eaten the fruit. her natural eyes were Byakugan eyes).

She then gave birth to Rikudo Sennin who in turn passed down abilities he had acquired from Juubi (either from being born from the mother who had eaten the fruit of after his sealing of the Juubi).

However i also think it is possible that his brother passed down natural Byakugan to his own descendants (Hyuuga) his other descendants possibly being Uzumaki (note the similarity between the Uzumaki Death Reaper and the Rabbit-goddes aka Sages mother who also had the Byakugan).

I think this is where the connection of Uzumakis and Hyuugas as being distant relatives to Senju and Uchiha may have come in.

that doesn't mean sharingan came from byakugan, they all came from the juubi, I think the juubi's eye in the forehead approves it's because of the jubi, kaguya has byakugan and sharingan

if anything, Hagoromo's comments stated she had the powers of both Byakugan and Sharingan. He said nothing of the sort that Sharingan came from Byakugan. I don't have any idea how you ppl took that statement and went "oh Kakashi was right". This is a perfect example of why it pays to have good comprehension skills. So yeah, what Kakashi said still holds no truth whatsoever.

I think it's logical that her third eye opened after the normal two no?

Anyway, even if Sharingan didn't descend from Byakugan directly, it was nice to see everything tying up neatly. Byakugan was confirmed to be ancient at least. Maybe it was her original eyes, while Sharingan appeared after she ate the fruit.
