In all my dating years I have never gone out to a "friendly date". I am not even sure if that term really exists.
By definition if you ask someone out on Valentine's day, "friendly date" is the last thing they are gonna think of.
So, i suggest to ask her casually if she has a date for Valentine's day; You say you are already friends, and that is a question very normal for friends
If she says "yes", then ask and get info about the guy.
If she says "no", then ask her if she would like to go to a movie or whatever else you might have in mind with you.
This will save you the embarrassment.
