Cause in the episode when "Whitebeard" fought "Blackbeard" he was just about to kill him after he slashed him but paused for a second, than he had a flashback when Gold Roger talked about what the people named with "D" were and i think he told him that they are important and instrumental to the "New Era"......so i think Whitebeard Spared him because of that and let Blackbeard shoot him and ultimately kill him

I also think he didnt go after Blackbeard after he killed his crewmate because of that same reason, i think he let Ace go after him cause his Middle initial was "D" too and it was his Destiny

the man was dying because of his old age and that was slowly killing him that reason could have been one of the reason why he sparred or the fact he wasn't able to swing his weapon or maybe he couldn' bare to kill 1 of his beloved sons

But you did notice the pause before he attacked him that last time.im sure it wasnt cause he was dying cause after that he took alot of punishment from Blackbeards crew and still wasnt dead till later, i think he paused for that reason i just stated cause what was the point of the Gold Roger Flashback if it wasnt that

not saying he could of killed him, just asking why he would pause before attacking one last time

Blackbeard was on Whitebeard's ship for decades. There was always some sort of mystery aura around Blackbeard, and even though he didn't stand out much, or made so that he doesn't stands out, he was strong. Whitebeard isn't stupid, he knew something was wrong, and when he killed Tatch, Whitebeard knew somethings was wrong. Call it a hunch, but he knew Ace's decision would change the era.

And the D part was to say that Rodger was looking for a carrier of the D, possibly a lineage linked to the Void Century, and that Blackbeard didn't embodied that will.

Whitebeard even said that Blackbeard wasn't a real "D" so I don't think that has anything to do with it. Blackbeard was responsible for the death of two of WB's sons. If anyone would've want to kill Blackbeard at that point it was Whitebeard.

That pause means nothing, it's not like WB was doing nothing when he got that flashback, that just happend in an instant. That flashback is important to us as viewers to understand the story. And if Whitebeard was meant to kill Blackbeard Oda would have made it happen, it's not like some random pause can influence a battle like that.

Ehm no, that doesn't even make sense and is completely opposite of WB personality. BB killed a crewmate and is responsible for the death of Ace and countless others during the war. WB is not going to let him live just because of that one letter in his name =/ especially not when he said that BB is not one of them, not one of the persons Roger was waiting for. So your argument of "that they are important to the new era" is invalid.

BB just survived because one WB was already nearly dead and two BB was extremely strong. He was already on a Yonkou lvl even before he ate a DF, let alone after.

My opinion on the battle is that Whitebeard was too weak to fight Blackbeard.
