While it's a detriment now, it wouldn't be in the future. Kakashi can simply train himself to use his right eye to aim kamui. Would just take some getting used to/to compensate.

So ultimately, going blind in that eye really doesn't mean much to Kakashi. It appears (through Itachi) that you can still use your 3 tomoe pretty well even with the blindness, so not sure that matters either.
