We know it's canon, yes, but besides that and some scetches that's about it. We don't have any details concerning the plot.

Why are we automatically jumping to the conclusion that neither of them will die? Here's some of the potential outcomes.

1.naruto dies and sasuke has a change of heart and revives him

2.sasuke gains some form of spiritual immortality(sage style)

3.same as number two but with naruto

4.the pictures are a thought or dream one of them has

Etc etc. The point is anything could really happen. Just keep that in mind

The plot of the movie won't be announced before the manga ends and it's probably fair to say the manga will conclude this fight

I'm sure it'll end with a cliffhanger. Perhaps a hint towards what's causing the moon to fall. As far as N&S not making it, they are. We have the sketches & the text where Naruto says that he needs to tell Sasuke something. That says enough & it's common sense that it's canon, as Kishi cannot wrap everything in such a small period of time.
