@bold: I know this is stupid, but, who knows? Kishimoto was an avid Dragon Ball Z fan, he may have, at some point, downloaded the above song and then fell in love with the name Naruto as he was listening to the music.

I like to think he was eating ramen just like Jiraiya was and saw the whirlpool design of a noodle and though "Naruto!" *means "whirlpool"*

i guess this is how it happened.... he was eating ramen adn was trying to search for a name. He finished all the noodles and all that was left in the boul was the soup. He was using his chopsticks and making circular patterns in the bowl with the remaining soup. A small whirlpool resulted because of the constant circular movement of the soup. And then Eureka!!! he cam up with the name Naruto( meaning whirlpool). Seems il-legit??

It's a known fact that Kishi was inspired by DBZ along with a host of other manga and overall japanese mythology. What the OP found was an interesting little tidbit of information that may be another link.

here is how he came up with naruto.....do you remember how jman came up with the name naruto for his book. That is how kishi came up with naruto. Kishi loves ramen, and he wanted to make a manga, and for that manga to have a unique main characters name.
