I was rereading some chapters with him and came across this.

In his battle against Shiki, it said that he and his crew were saved by a sudden storm.

So my theory is that Gol D Roger has Devil Fruit Power with the ability to control the weather, which would be fitting since then he would also have control over the seas and be able to sail his ship as he pleases.

A Spin-Off Theory

This is a less plausible theory, but how cool would it be nonetheless? Perhaps it may not even be a devil fruit power, but the power of his sword. Notice that his sword was pointing upward as the storm happened. This reminds of the sword that Blackbeard used in Pirates of the Carribean where his sword has dominion over his ship. It could be something similar.

It sounds plausible. I think out of the two ideas you proposed, the Devil Fruit theory is more likely, though, if his sword was the source of weather manipulation, would it be possible for that sword to be the One Piece? If so, that'd be... underwhelming, to say the least. And it'd be incredibly unsatisfactory for Luffy, because, of the two times he used a sword in combat, one was to prove a point to Arlong, and the other was from the shadows stolen with the Kage Kage no Mi.

Roger being a weather man, that would be pretty great power for the PK to have and if Dragon was to have the same weather fruit people have theorized in the past, it would be further incentive for Dragon to be known as the most dangerous man in the world (other than overthrowing the WG).

Though him using his power as a way to make traveling the seas easier is doubtful to me, can't take any credit away from Tom.

I don't think it'd be the One Piece if that were the case. If the weather manipulation was the sword, I think it'd just be a rare item of the world, perhaps being one of the weapons from the "great kingdom."

I mean Nami already has a weapon that has similar properties and that's just technology from the current world.

Or the sword could have "eaten" a storm devil fruit. Unless Vegapunk hadn't developed that tech yet.

Then again, we would have to see him doing more sh*t with the sword involving storms before making that conclusion.
Also, Rodger is holding the sword off panel. I doubt Oda would draw it like that if it was anything more than a very sharp piece of metal.

Well the sword being the catalyst for the storm is just one conclusion.

The other is that it's the devil fruit power of Gol D Roger.

I was just saying how haxxed would it be if he had the beast haki+weather sword+a crazy strong devil fruit power.

Maybe his df has been passed down to dragon, weather manipulation. That's why dragon is the most wanted man
Regarding this thread, I was thinking along the lines of this same idea. If Roger had a DF,then who has it now? Some fodder? Unlikely. It would actually make sense for the "most wanted man in the world" to have that fruit. Since Roger was killed in Loguetown, the fruit was likely pretty easily accessible unlike if he died in, say, Raftel. We already know for sure that Dragon knows the location of Loguetown so maybe he did indeed lie in wait for Roger's fruit and that's what gave him the power and reputation to get together such a huge army.
