How was it sad? That his and people on NB main problem, underestimating people. Madara has already said Taijutsu is his weakness and so far only taijutsu users have damaged him. Lee doing that to Madara was no surprise to me(but that's because I know what Lee and Guy are capable of.)

Madara has to follow Obito's orders in order to be revived and become the Juubi's jinchuuriki. And in addition Madara enjoys toying with people and prefers to not utilize too many powerful jutsus in a battle, it is not graceful in his perspective.
