I Need To Return A Game, Help

I received a game from my friend and he got it for the wrong platform (Xbox One)
And I only play on the PS4 (Reason why he bought it for the wrong platform because he isn't a real gamer and doesn't know all of these consoles)

Also, I was thinking to myself:
Can I return the game (It's Unopened) and exchange it for the PS4 Version.
I looked up other topics on this and it seems like you have to actually BUY IT AGAIN

I am a little confused about all of this and I also have the receipt with me just in case

You need the receipt and you only have a week since the day it was bought to return it.

It really depends on the store but if it is un opened you might have a chance to exchange it for the right console I know my game store i have here allows returns under certain conditions.

of course the receipt helps
