when i went to see if a port was free so i could port forward some thing all my ports are closed. i read that it might be my router (i have a netgaer n600 WNDR3400) or Norton that is causing this problem but i have no idea so if someone knows how to fix this plz help me! thanks

First of all, turn off Norton Firewall and Windows Firewall. Go to your Static address (If you don't know it, Go to Start, search for cmd, there, type in ipconfig and hit enter, a list of stuff should appear, what you are looking for Is somewhat like 192.168.x.x ) using a Web Browser (Preferably Chrome and/or Firefox), when you are there, navigate to
Find your Modem model, and click on it, after that, find Minecraft on the list, and follow the illustrated instructions.
If you have your ports open, and both your Antivirus and Windows firewalls shut down, you will be fine.
