I guess I just assumed that meant the manga would be short too, but you’re right. When and how? The Manga is in the future, we saw no Shinki so far and doesn't look like he will be involved in the storyline. I can see Shinki being defeated when the Kara plan gets into full motion and the echoes of that defeat will reach Boruto's ears.

"Shinki got defeated? Kara must be really strong."

Then Boruto defeats Kara and that is it.

It won't be forced, Gaara's low Jonin level so Shinki who's slightly superior to him would be able to legitimately succeed.

I said it more as a shot at borutos current writing, so far they’ve set up shinki of the sand and kagura from the mist, I’m willing to bet they’ll both be important figures by the time skip, at least anime wise. I honestly don’t see them killing anyone off except maybe nardo or sauce, they don’t have the writing chops to make any other death have any impacts

Still highly doubt they can make such a move. Gaara would have to be dead (forced move) and even if that happened, there's no reason Kankuro can't take over. I see where you're coming from as the writing is bad no doubt but i don't see how they would make such a bad move.
