Kurama pretty much is IN ESSENCE the missing piece to making Naruto the strongest character right now. What that missing piece and/or void that Kurama fills for Naruto is Intelligence/Strategy instead of his normal blitz tactics.

As for what Kurama did...Naruto gave him control and he gave Kakashi some Chakra and threw him/Kakashi at Obito's Kamui/Dimensional Shift WHILE at the same time attacking Obito with the Extended Arm, which is why Kakashi was able to punch Tobi in the stomach in the other dimension while still having Chakra to come back... Which keep in mind Obito was ready to take care of Kakashi once and for all by using his dimensional shift on him, knowing Kakashi had no more chakra left to come back.

In layman's terms: Naruto always had the guts, determination, never quit/never-say-never attitude, but Kurama now gives him what made Top-Shinobi like Itachi, Minato, Shikamaru/Nara clan stick out from the rest (OR once can say what makes them capable of doing what they did) which is Master Strategist/Tactician + Intelligence to change plans, spot weaknesses, etc...
