You can look at atfight against buu, Gohan wipes the floor wit Super Buu, while Goku in SS3, is able to challenge him but if I remember correctly its not the same level of domination. (Though I admit neither Majin Buu nor Goku were fully serious) But Gohan had the most hidden potential in the show. Mystic Gohan is that potential unlocked.

That's not correct. 1.where would he find it? 2.he has no intel on superman and doesn't even know what it is. 3. Goku is a warrior and is a believer in honour and respect, he always wants to fight opponents at their best and won't let their weaknesses give him the win. for example, he could have easily defeated freeza on namek and even king kai told him that "there will never be another chance again" and Goku was like "NO!!! i want to beat him at his best!"
