go back to the first fight in maruto. kakashi vs zabuza. kakashi made a clone and zabuza made one too. but kakashi didnt know that the second zabuza was a clone too. and if u recall the kage vs madara fight. madara stated that he is the only one who fighure out the wood clone was actually clone and not the real body. so maybe madara created a clone knowing hashi was a clone in the begining and hashi killed it and didnt realize it was a clone

I think it's stupid to say that Madara meant to lose, all to get Hashirama's DNA. We do not know at what point he made his plans, or that he knew he even needed the DNA at that point in time. He went all out with Hashirama. That was a real fight, life and death. It's astonishing that he was able to put Hashirama in such a state. He lost, but only barely. Against the God of Shinobi, in Sage Mode, and using 84739274 anusfisting hands. He didn't realize the wood clone because he had his dojutsu off due to the fatigue. I believe that he really meant to win, but didn't. Somehow survived, then sets his plans in motion, including the acquisition of Hashirama's semen.

But no, you can see he didn't have EMS activated during those last few panels.
And i'm pretty sure that somewhere in the manga states he uses his ''eye-technique'' to see if its a clone.
And if it was a clone how else would he have a wound to put hashirama's famous DNA inside of it.
So he wouldn't know if it was a clone or the real hashirama or a goddamn fodder using some replication technique.
