In the manga when the do a flash back, the white border part around the pictures, becomes black, noticeably at that.

Exactly ...this is what I said in my comment replying to that guy ...even the animated episode didn't portray it as a flashback ...it doesn't even make any sense

There was a reason for that, Zetsu didn't want to leave Sasuke alone. It's common sense, they would have snatched Sasuke up in his weakened state.

Doesn't fit and I'll give you a few examples.

after Sasuke vs Itachi, Tobi beat Zetsu to Sasuke. Granted Zetsu did state where he was but he didn't rely on Zetsu to get there.

Tobi used his technique to reach Naruto, while Naruto was at the "hotel" no zetsu in sight

Tobi located Danzo, without the help of Zetsu.

I re read a long time ago and I thought the same thing. Also their is a chapter where sasuke is dashing through trees with taka to crush the leaf and tobi stops sasuke out of no where. Sasuke says how do you know where I was? Then later on we find out sasuke had a zetsu spore on him?? Seems plausible to me.
