My Xperia does the same sometimes >_>
I just put it on "Power Save Mode" and lessen the brightness a bit. That usually increases my battery life.

Sounds like a cheap phone. My Note 3 can last a full day with extensive usage. If I don't touch it, it can last for days.

You need to disable the push messages, and/or swtich to energy preserving mode ( if it has one).

Well with my android, it only goes down by 10% when I leave it for a whole day. Like if my battery is at 70% it will only go down to 60% . What you need to do is - when you're not using it: Turn off mobile data, turn off wifi, close all applications, clear RAM memory status, and make sure that your brightness is set to minimum. Also, never ever let your phone die or let it run completely out of battery because it's not good for the battery in general ^^

That's what I do with mine :)

It depends on the type of phone you have to be honest.
High grade androids have great battery life while low grade, budget Androids barely last a few hours.
My suggestion to you is to download 'Juice Defender'. Its an app which can drastically save your battery life if you know how to
use it right.
There are also a few simple other things you can do
-Turn down your screen brightness, also disable auto brightness
-Turn off features like WiFi and Bluetooth when not in use
-If you're not using your phone, turn off the screen-don't keep it on
-Don't allow apps to auto update without your permission or your Gmail/Email account to automatically refresh and collect new mail.
-You could try root your Android to give you more control over your device
Just a heads up, you might also have apps running in the background without your permission. If so, I suggest you download an App Killer to stop them.
Hope this little rant from me helped. I used to own a rather bad Android which had a lot of battery issues too so these tips that I listed for you were really what I did to lengthen my battery life each day.
If you want really good battery life and are still not pleased with the results after trying my suggestions, maybe think about purchasing a high grade phone (Samsung Galaxy s4/Note 3, HTC One Etc)
If you already own a high grade Android then maybe it's your battery itself which is the issue. If thats the case, think about buying a new one.

I think it is your inability to use teh phone or you need to change your battery..I have a cheap android phone I use it to browse internet whole day.I even tether it with my laptop. It goes on whole day.Not only that even at 10% it works for hours.
along with tips mentioned above you can try greenify to hibernate useless apps that leech battery.

Been using mine for 10+ hours and still have 58%. You should probably get a new phone battery.

I can second this. a new battery can breath new life into your phone. if not, contact the place you purchased from and ask their advice.
