Well the day has come. Ever since Itachi mentioned a third location in which to learn Sage Mode, members have been coming up with theories far and wide as to what it could be.
The logical choice was Slug Sage Mode, as that would balance the triangle of powers between the sannin once again, though many doubted it.
Then, when Hashirama revealed his own Sage Mode, many claimed it to be Slug Sage Mode, while others still doubted it, and claimed it to be a lesser known fourth Sage Mode.
However, today Slug Sage Mode has indeed been confirmed.
Now, even as Slug Sage Mode is confirmed, I for one still believe Hashirama to be using it.
Firstly, as Itachi explained that the Shikkotsu forest was EQUALLY as famous as the locations in which you learn the Toad and Dragon sage modes, I find it difficult to believe that there is a type of Sage Mode that is NOT famous. Especially one used by the most powerful shinobi in history.
Secondly, as we have yet to see any type of Summon for Hashirama, it is still within the realm of possibility for him to be a summoner of Slugs.
Third, Hashirama being Tsunade's grandfather, gives him a viable tie to Tsunade who is one of 2 people who can currently summon Slugs, the other being Sakura, Tsunade's own student. And as we have seen in the past, summoning contracts are usually passed down from master to student, as is the case with the Sannin, and Team 7, with some even staying within the family, in the cast of Minato and Naruto (albeit through their shared Master, Jiraiya.)
And Lastly, the fact that each sannin attempted, yet failed in different ways to master Sage Mode, leads me to believe that Tsunade also attempted, and failed to master Sage mode, and so developed her own technique, in the form of the Byakugo.
And this is all just my 2 cents, I'm not going to even get into the metaphoric relations between Sakura and the Senju clan as well as the symbolic resemblance between Hashirama's sage mode, and the Strength of 100 technique.
