I got a smartphone and need help

Hi I recently got a smartphone as my old phone stopped working and was very unreliable it was a regular phone. Anyway I need information about it as much as you can give me. I don't know much about regular phones so this one is even more confusing.

I got the Nokia lumia 520 and it seems great well my old phone was really rubbish, anyway I keep receiving these messages saying youbdont have enough credit to use data. What the hell is that I'm guessing its for when your using internet. Now my question is is there an data limit? Does the data count if I'm using my own WiFi internet? Am I getting charged money for using my own internet. Can I download things that are free without this data crap? I'm on pay as you go but need to sort out some package deal for minutes and what not. P.s any other information would be helpful pps on this data sense thing it says I've used 8mb mobile and 199mb WiFi now that seems like a lot to me I player around abitnwhen I first got it a few days ago and downloaded and deleted like 3 games and have dress vs zombies and used Xbox live and that's it except for a few calls which were very short

You should not be charged data if your on WiFi but you need to ensure that you are. Check your WiFi settings and make sure you are connected. Make sure that it is setup to automatically sign in to WiFi when it is available.

You need to go to the store and simply buy a card (They range from 30-60) you are on a pay as you go but its a pay as you go. But its pretty much money on your phone to keep your phone activated. from what I can tell is that you dont have money on your card.. So you need to add the money to your card. U can do it online too.. Also wifi does not cost money...

Thanks I've just done that it said data connection to o2 and something called roaming and I turned both of them off. But still after going on game downloads it showed my data go up although it stated it was WiFi data its on 210 now lol. Is there a limit its not taking my phone storage space or something is it?

A card? You mean one that let's me top up money when I go to a store to top up my phone credit? On my last one I had a package where I paid 5 a month and got like 60 mins and 200 texts etc I really need to do that as I had 10 quid top up and it went very quickly.

Yes that is the best thing about it I get my little Xbox live avatar its cool I can send messages and change his clothes lol
