I find myself gaining respect for Obito's character.

I'm really starting to like Obito's character more and more. When you think about it from the larger perspective, Kishi made him really deep.

He's a villain who believes he's doing nothing wrong; he's actually trying to help bring peace back to the world. Thought some of the more puerile members of the Base believe he's doing this just for Rin, it served as axiomatic for me that he was doing this because he realized that there is no hope the in the world, and only despair in the form of slight joy. He thinks that when given the choice between good and bad, humans would choose the latter.

Tsuki no Me is supposed to be a world where everybody can be happy.

I honestly won't even be all that upset if he's Talk-no-jutsu'd, because at least unlike Nagato he wasn't changed in one conversation.

He defies the stereotypical villain though (die hard just cause). That's probably why the majority of people hate him.

Also, I'm starting to believe that Rin and him actually had something going...so it wasn't all one sided as everyone thinks it was.

I never hated Obito as much as a lot of other people did. I think the naysayers never really got over Tobi being revealed as Obito. Ever since then, no matter what he did for whatever reason he was marked as Kishi's big troll to the Narutoverse.

Personally I think he towers over Madara in the case of villianery. Madara strikes me as a spoiled child out to subjegate the world because he couldn't have things his way.

Obito to me is like Magneto is to the X-Men. He is trynig to bring order to the world though his actions were insane and misguided, he truly believed what he was doing was for the betterment of the world. Other NB members cling onto the one tiny part of the whole reason why he turned out the way he did (Rin) but she was just the catalyst to push him over the edge. Madara fostered that and the Masked Man was born.

But I may be judging Madara too harshly. Maybe he will turn out to be just as deep...but I highly doubt it.

People on this site only want " ACTION !! DEATH!! " .

Obito is really a deep character and the best antagonist in this series . But , many people here are simple minded that say that he is doing this for Rin .

And I'm still losing respect to be honest. He's more of a lost child than a villain. Raise your standards.

Aren't all villains lost in some respect? That's why do what they do. At some point in their lives, they lost their way and went down the wrong path. I wouldn't say Obito is the deepest villain ever, but as far a Shonen Jump villains are concerned, he definenitly has more depth then say Aizen or Zeref.

He is like a step further down the deep end then Nagato was. Nagato also tried to create peace through crazy methods

As many others have pointed out before, he was never truly a villain. He was a antagonist.

I do think it would be nice for kishi to have a villain who just enjoys killing and stuff just because he is bad. Not because he desires world peace or anything. But I also find obito as the perfect antagonist to narutos protagonist. He challenges everything naruto believes, and attempts to change him. He is the complete anti naruto, and shows what wouldve happened if naruto gave up.

I still think kishi couldve done better on certain things, but overall he has done a good job.

Actually Magneto actually lost his family before he became Magneto .... you are closer than you think.

I agree on that perspective, it's just when people say he makes a good villain that I disagree on as the OP called him one. I feel that a villain should not posess good intentions and should follow through with his plan to the very end. Not remain confused and have to constantly question his motives or have doubts and backs out in the end
