We are doing a disservice to those that came before us. Most things we're doing in our lives is something others have done already. Those who don't know their history are doomed to repeat it. Why can't we learn from their successes and failures so we can live greater lives and do new things that haven't been repeated for the last 10 generations? Knowledge and wisdom is what we lack and it's all around us. In life we can either learn from our own mistakes or the mistakes of others. I can either dedicate my whole life to measuring the circumference of the earth and do all sorts of calculations or I can just read a book that gives me the fact that the earth is round and save myself a lifetime. I think we should know better by now, looking at the condition of the world tells me that there is no scarcity of intelligent people but wisdom is very rare to find in that same person.

Interesting observation.

Wisdom can't be sold, therefore it is neither valued or sought in today's world.

Hahaha OP guess what. The previous generation had the same question. The one before it too. The one before that one too. And so on.

Just because you repeat something does not mean it will fail or succeed like before.I could do one thing right now and have it fail but repeat in 3 years and have it succeed.

What's the point of this thread? Learn from the past?Well that's what we all do nearly everyday, every book we read, every information we learn was discovered before the present, so we are all learning from the past.

Damn man, them books keep getting you. I need to open a book shop near your house, Ill be hella rich ripping you off.

You're sort of correct, personalities have existed throughout history, as for learning goes- most people worthy of learning something usually figure it out on their own and in terms of science well you can see the progress, though I would say knowledge of history is underutilized in terms of how we live out lives.

Everything that is today is because of what we learned from past.

You can try calculating the circumference of earth in a different way and still learn a lot of things. The problems you face while doing something some one has done in past might occur in doing something else. If you are in engineering or research you had understand there is not a lot of things to do (or you can do when you are fresh). You can try the same thing in a different way and end up having a unique problem that cannot be solved by existing methods. Solving that problem could be a breakthrough.

All I'm saying is, let's stop creating problems that have been solved in the past, let's learn from old mistakes others have made so we can move on and make new mistakes because that is how we will make the previous generations proud by utilizing all our existing resources to advance humanity.
