I know Kishi has not killed anyone of any importance in the war so far but the only reason he has killed important characters before like Jiraya is for plot development. I believe we are at the point in the plot where it is a necessity. Just look where we are at. When Nagato talked to Naruto about war he talked about how terrible it was and the loss and hatred Naruto would have to deal with and overcome. So far no one Naruto has any real attachments to has died in this war. The parallel between Obito and Naruto has already been made about how Obito is what Naruto could have been if he had given up all hope and attachments to this world. This last chapter Obito is sort of implying that Naruto is just a naive kid like he was in the past but someday he will see the truth and give in to the idea of the moon eye plan. I do believe that eventually Obito will switch sides but first Naruto needs to experience great tragedy so he can see things from Obito's perspective a little. We already know all the burden's that have been placed on Naruto by everyone and earlier Obito talked about what would happen if Naruto failed to achieve all of his burdens. Naruto obviously said that he would not fail and so far Naruto has done nothing but kick ass this whole war. One of the things he has recently said is that he will not allow his comrades to die. We can see at the end of the last chapter how confident he is. He needs to lose that confidence for a period of time because that is needed for suspense in this war. The only way Naruto will be able to talk-no-jutsu on Obito is if he experiences great Pain of loss and maybe even get's to the point where he even thinks of giving up and letting the moon eye plan happen to ease his Pain but through some encouragement overcomes and through this shows Obito that the Pain can be overcome and this helps turn him. The way for him to lose confidence is for him to helplessly watch countless fodder and even some of his good friends get severely hurt and even killed and not be able to do anything about it. This time since he is good with the ninetails he won't be able to erase his pain by going ninetails mode but will instead have to face the pain of loss directly. I know it seems unlikely Kishi will kill anyone important but now story wise is as good of a time as any. Now before they die the alliance would show many epic Jutsu's and would even probably push Madara, Obito, and the Jubi back but eventually it simply would not be enough and they would start getting picked off losing members a little at a time.

Kishi has long missed his chance to kill off characters(at least for me). At the start of the war I thought that people would die but asspull after asspull I don't think it's happening. Onoki tanking two meteors, Dauri's most used word changed last second, the kages still alive...

^I think you should have posted it like this, it would make it easier for others to read.

Anyway, I agree with everything you've said.
Character death is very important in any story, especially this one considering where the plot is at.
It's a war, people die, important characters should too.

Though I really hope that Obito doesn't suddenly turn good, I think it's better for the story if he stays a villain.

And, the arrival of the alliance has set it up so that characters should die, there's no way they won't - it's the Juubi, Edo Madara + Obito. 3 Rinnegan + infinite chakra

I also think it would be important for Naruto to learn more about pain and despair and experience it first-hand so that he will be better able to relate to Sasuke when they reunite

Exactly

Nobody is going to die - Except for Maybe Kages

those are the only people past their Prime - cept for Gaara

and at least 2-3 of them will die

Yeah though I don't think Kishi is going to kill any of the younger generation, I do believe we are going to be seeing a lot of the parents/elders dying though. Hopefully.

Yup i kinda agree but i fear the older one's are at a greater risk of kicking the bucket bcos of the Kings of Konoha/Will of Fire theme.

Added a few spaces help...read it, but nonetheless I agree with your overall theory , that at this point in time death needs to occur, for Naruto to be able to feel true hatred for someone, and also to bring the pain of lose onto everyone.

I agree that someone's going to die soon. It'll most likely be Gai or Kakashi. The younger characters don't have a good chance of dying.
