I feel like I'm the only one who feels this way on the base

I'm definitely one of those people that are emotionally attached to Naruto as a series, and it's characters. Though it seems silly to a lot of people, I like really getting into a show; first DBZ and then Naruto and after this who knows what the 'next long series' will be (AoT?)
Speaking for myself, it's fun to have this drama Naruto brings, since my real life isn't very drama-filled (thank goodness). Some people like wrestling, some like novellas (soap operas) some like housewives of whatever, Naruto just happens my drug of choice! :O Good point to bring up SusanooKyuubi, I wonder why humans are so drawn to drama in one form or another?

All people, no matter how much of island they say they are, become part of collective fanbase. While I have no problem with that and I see that a majority of people in the base are just like that, I have a problem the extremist, hardcore fans of any base, otaku or not. It also common that those kinds of fans are the most vocal, making the fanbase out to be childish, which I'm not fond of.

True, having something like Naruto to bond with people over is so... magnetic! I know when I meet people and find out they like Naruto I automatically like them... it backfires sometimes though but I keep doing it! That might be a bad thing though cuz it clouds my judgement and I over look when people are actually not too nice

Ooo you mean the types that push their beliefs on everyone around them and just get super angry and aggressive with their opinions with no reason to even start a fight... yeah I know ppl like that. It does make us look bad! I'm a cosplayer and those are probably the same people who yell across the room that whatever character sucks, or that they should die even 0_0; it's so extreme and sometimes it's hard to ignore them, though thats the best way to deal with em. I try so hard not to get into it with 'em but its so hard to keep my mouth shut sometimes :x ugh
