It was prophesized in their next battle they would both die.Both hokage candidates can't die at the same time. Then again they will have to fight eventually I'm assuming naruto becomes hokage, sasuke is pissed he wasnt chosen and they have their epic battle. Eventually they both die fulfilling their destiny's.... Or plot no jutsu Kicks in..
I think thats a good sugestion - that Naruto becomes Hokage, and Sasuke gets some kind of special position in the city - but like alot of other things in the series, history repeats itself, and Sasuke goes rogue, and Naruto protects the village as Hokage.
And perhaps they both die? But some kind of plot no jutsu makes it so Naruto is "reborn" as the new SO6P or something - perhaps with Sasuke giving him his eyes when he's defeated and have joined the "Naruto talked some sense into us" team.
So that in some way - they both did die - but in Narutos case it's his "old self" that died?
