I don't support the ideas of older times, but to tear down works of art and memories of history for some current emotional reason is ludacris imo.

It helps no one to tear down these monuments becaues the people they represent wern't pc enough.

It gets into the debate whether or not it's ok to be proud of the fact that your ancestors were vikings or your country was an empire or something, and that wole premise is dumb.

When people are fascinated by ancient wars and empires they don't want to incite new dictatorship and rule the world with them.

They just think those concepts are cool, imagine how many games and shows that plays in that sandbox of eternal wars and conquest.

It's not evil cus it's not actually a threat to start slave trading and forcing an ideology onto other people. Tearing down statues is denying the reality the past once existed.

And that makes people dumber, not more kinder.

So if I was German, according to you I should be able to proudly put up a monument of Hitler because that's apart of a history I don't wanna forget? A history of my people's triumph at the expense of another?

Or does your argument only stand for the terrorists that massacred African/Americans to push their "cool concepts" of supremacy?

You are talking about putting up today. That's a different than letting old ones stay as a piece of historical record. It doesn't help that some of the statues attacked were of those who actually supported Blacks.

If we start demolishing the monuments and statues of the similar times in my country, the same people supporting it in USA as well as International press is very likely get a collective heart attack and start accusing us of going hyper nationalist.

You have a point but I think for example when they tore down that Saddam statue that was in the present, like if there really was a statue of Hitler I could understand people wanting to take it down cus that's really extreme but in general it's just ignoring history, it's not fixing it, it's ruining it for no reason.
I know there is a statue of like Stalin or something in russia and people dont wanna take it down they even have some respect for him cus it's part of their history but I can see the anger people have.
My gripe is mainly when it comes to kings or queens or scientists or whatever that had racists things said or done, it's like, who didn't in those times?
Ruining those statues it just makes people forget about history it doesn't make things better in the present.

im all for it, remove all those fuckers

im not aware of any statue that was destroyed or removed that wasnt one of a white supremacist. most of these statues were put up -after- the civil war. once the confederates lost they started glamorizing their life of owning and treating people as property as being "rebels" who were just misunderstood. but in reality theyre just symbols and reminder of white supremacy, which we dont actually need moving forward, we need to be anti-racists for this to end, that means not idolizing racists

im all for art but idolizing white supremacists -is- a problem, especially how our history has actually been white washed, destorying statues isnt white washing. in grade school history class they teach students complete fairytales, you have to look yourself for the real information. they omit how bad a lot of these people actually were and leave out all the completely awful things they did or allowed to be happened to people who werent white, which im grateful people are starting to see and learn about and are outraged by, as they should be. in the end Christopher Columbus was an asshole who used religion as a justification of his right to the land of the Native Americans because of his skin color. we celebrate a holiday were he turned a peaceful dinner into a massacre under the guise of "family" and "togetherness", Jesus was made to look like a white person to justify white supremacy by the roman catholics. this is all exapmples of white washing, destroying statues of racists isnt white washing, its being anti racist and against white supremacy. those statues are up as a result of white washing. theres almost no native american people here, its truly sad and a shame to have idols of people like that or slave masters up. even Mt.Rushmore, with the presidents faces etched into. that was an important mountain of worship and very sacred to the Native americans of that region, that was 100% done on purpose to execute them all, then put their faces on their place of worship

the history is there, we're too deep in and these people will be taught about, though majority of the time in a sugarcoated way in my past experience. im against rewriting historical events, which has been happening, in the favor of white supremacy. they were assholes and not someone to be proud of or look up too. like when i went to Germany, people were so anti nazi, i loved it i didnt see any hitler statues or people riding around with nazi flags under the guise of "culture", like racists do with the confederate flag or statues of white supremacists. because outside of the racists, they werent proud of that part of their history

and while history is a good to preserve in an accurate context. statues do no good in reminding people of the actual problems. statues come from a form of sculpting that was created in egyptian art to make -idols- of deities and royalty to be placed around for worship and reverence. we dont need these idols of racists because its not something to idolize unless youre racist. pushing aside the shitty character of these people is something that needs to stop happening moving forward. some cities even removed the statues which im all for as well, **** them

You actually do make a compelling argument.
