I don't think Hashirama can truly control the Kyubi

From re-reading the chapters where he fought madara during their last battle at valley, it seems that Hashirama can only "suppress" and put the kyubi to sleep...BUT he can't control and utilize it in battle like how Madara can. That would require the mankeyou. Or else he would've used it against madara. Just a thought.

And though madara lost the kyubi during that fight, he still fought on equal term with hashi till the end when he pretended to die, that's pretty impressive.
